The Economic and Business Historical Society (EBHS), established in 1975 promotes economic and business historical research and teaching at annual conferences where scholars open their research for discussion. Papers read at EBHS meetings may be offered for publication in the society's refereed journal Essays in Economic and Business History: The Journal of the Economic and Business Historical Society. Society members have a remarkable record for turning research first presented at EBHS sessions into scholarly books or contributions to edited volumes.     The Economic and Business Historical Society is unique among scholarly associations in the social sciences. Economic historians based in colleges of liberal arts affiliate with historical societies and those in business schools participate in economic history organizations. These disparate groups with common stakes in economic and business history mingle at EBHS forums with independent scholars who share similar interests; all broaden their base of knowledge in an environment of give and take as uncommon expectations collide with accepted dogma and participants sample ideas from diverse academic and nonacademic cultures.      English is the language of EBHS meetings and publications. International scholars conversant in English are encouraged to participate in the functions of EBHS and to join the organization.      The EBHS, a nonprofit organization financed solely through membership dues and fees, is open to scholars of economic and business history without regard to age, race, gender, physical disability, or national origin.
